My Mother, Savla, and I thought that my redone room needed a new headboard. We went to the salvage yard looking for something we could use. We found this wonderful gate. We thought that with a little work and a lot of imagination it could become an awesome headboard!
The gate was too long for a double sized bed so the first step was to cut it down to size.

Then when I finally got that extra portion off I got this victory shot!

Things like hinges and the box where the door handle was had to be cut and grinded off to make it look less like a door and more like a decorative headboard.
By cutting out the box for the door handle there was a square that needed touching up. With the extra piece that was cut off earlier (from the victory shot). I was able to extract the arches I needed to complete the square.
The finished metal work. It still kind of looks like a gate. Now on to the wood frame!
Here is an image of the wood frame being worked out. It was Glued and Screwed into the metal frame. Advice: spend a little more on better wood.
Everything is now in place. The cracks in the knots are filled in and the corners rounded with a router. I primed it with Kilz latex paint then with a coat of black spray paint. It is now ready for its final paint of Rustolium's Espresso colored paint.
Here is the finished project bolted to the bed and modeled by my mom and looking good.
